Formatting SEO Link building Articles for the Search Engines

22 Jul

Writing content for the Internet requires you to keep up on the latest changes to the algorithms that are tracking your online media. Google, Yahoo and Bing each rely on their own proprietary software to build a database of results that are linked to a person’s keyword search. Every so often the rules for how SEO is delivered to the pages of a web search change. Today the accepted format for publishing SEO link building articles includes a writer optimizing their content at the time that it is being published. Google prefers each article that is searched by its indexing software to have H1, H2 or H3 headlines for each new paragraph within the article. The keywords that appear in the content should also be easy to identify.

Bold Keywords Enhance Optimization

Text that is bold or in italics indicates the exact keyword in a sentence by providing the search engines with unmistakable keywords. In order to meet the expectations of readers who are looking for information online using a specific keyword search, it is important to place your keyword in the title of the article as well as using it sparingly within the body of your article.

Keyword Density Influences Search Results

The number of times your keyword appears in your article is called keyword density. To be effective in communicating your message one or two keywords should be used when writing content that is going to link back to a website. The preferred amount of times that a specific keyword appears in an article should be twice or perhaps three times, but never more than three. Of course placing a word in the title of the article does not count as using the same word or series of words in the body of the article.

Limit Keyword Usage

When used correctly, keywords allow a reader to peruse an article without stumbling over an awkward phrase or having to reread a sentence that may not make sense. Good writing provides a smooth flow of ideas by incorporating keywords and allowing them to be used naturally in the content. For best results it is recommended that the opening and closing paragraphs contain the selected keywords and any additional paragraphs be used to communicate something relevant about the subject matter.

Headlines Aid in Optimizing Linked Articles

If the title of your article incorporates keywords and the opening and closing paragraph add the optimization to your article, then you are helping the search engines find your written work. By giving a title to each paragraph (in the form of an H2 header) you provide additional optimizing clarity for the search engines. Be careful when creating H2 or H3 headings that they relate to each paragraph. You do not want to mislead your readers with an eye catching headline that is not related to your subject matter. You should also avoid the temptation to include your keyword in headings outside the article title. Overuse of key phrases can have a negative impact on the search engines that are reviewing your article.

Paragraph Headings Promote Your Writing

If you are a talented and creative writer, you can produce an article about a specific topic and go back through the content to add optimization that is relevant to your keywords. I prefer to write an article that includes the appropriate words where I want them as I write. Once I complete an article I proofread my work and build headlines for each paragraph. This way I can come up with an H2 tag that directly relates to the paragraph instead of forcing me to follow the headline as I write. You can see from this installment of my blog that I am following the procedures that allow search engines to find my SEO link building work easily. So, from now on you will see me using this format to post new blogs, but I am not going to change formats on older posts because those articles were optimized for a different set of guidelines.
